Last weekend was family “rivalry” weekend. My Hokies traveled to UNC to play the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, and my parents, cousin Alexis, and I all went to the game. My parents came to Burlington Friday night so we could celebrate my dad’s birthday (a few days early). I painted him a picture of his favorite dog breed. He loved it.
Saturday started super early, as Kevin drove down to ride over to Chapel Hill with me. Once I got him to campus in time for band rehearsal, I found my parents and we snacked for a little while before heading to campus ourselves. I even had time to grab a few pictures with Kevin and my dear friend Lee before they headed out to do their band thing.
The first half of the game was great – Hokies outscored the Heels 24-3! But the excitement died down in the third quarter and most of the fourth. Most boring 15-20 minutes of football ever. But the game picked back up later in the fourth, and the Hokies came out on top 34-17. I was one of few Hokies in our section, but my goodness I yelled enough to make up for it. I got a stink-eye look from a lady a couple seats in front of me one time, so naturally I shouted a little louder the next time.
After the game, we had a lovely dinner at Breadmen’s, one of my favorite Chapel Hill restaurants. At the end of the day, it was just awesome to spend time with my parents and Alexis, especially since I don’t get to see her super often.

Have you been to any good football games this year? Who’s your team?
