Happy Last Friday of the Month! But not only is the last Friday of the month, it’s my birthday! Usually I write some kind of reflective post about lessons learned or goals or something, but this year, I’m sticking to my monthly Friday Five. I’ve probably already posted about what I’d write in this birthday post, anyway. So, onward with my Friday Five highlights for November!
I swear it feels like I was just writing my September Friday Five post. Do I say that every month? Maybe that’s because I didn’t blog a whole lot this month—sorry, y’all, lots going on behind the scenes! Either way, the end of October is near and it’s time for another edition of Friday Five.
My friend Caroline over at Adventures in Nonsense started a Friday Five series, where she highlights five awesome things from the month, on the last Friday of the month. I love a good, easy roundup post, so I thought I’d join the fun this time! July has been a crazy fun month, and picking just five things to share was a bit difficult. But here we go!
It’s good to do one of these “life lately” posts every once in a while. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of producing “blog-worthy” content that I forget that my random life happenings are just as important! Well, maybe not important, but just as blog-worthy.
As per usual, I’ve been staying pretty busy lately. So, without any further ado, here’s what’s been happening in my life lately, along with lots of things I’ve been loving!
I used to do these curated Friday posts pretty often, but I phased them out. I think it’s time to throw one in the mix again, just because I can. And it’s Friday – why the heck not?
So, Happy Friday, y’all! I’ll treat this post as a celebration of Friday and the weekend, fused with some “life lately” updates and happenings. Life always has something worth sharing, and I’ve been up to some fun adventures in the last few weeks.
Happy Tuesday, y’all! Life has been an adventure lately, especially as my graduate program comes to a close. I can’t believe I graduate with my Master of Arts degree this Thursday! Back in August, the director of the program (and one of my favorite professors) told us, “This will be the slowest and fastest 10 months of your lives.” He wasn’t kidding!
Well, okay, I do have to talk about my thesis project a little bit. Since February, I have been building an educational website about type-2 diabetes for young adults. Building, designing, writing all the content for it… the whole nine yards. I’ll present it on Wednesday at our annual thesis exhibition, where my 30 classmates will be showing off their awesome work, too. Here’s a glimpse of the home page of my project:
On the “blog rebrand” front, I’ve done some work and research toward that. I’ve got my colors and fonts nailed down, which helps in the design process. The domain is mine as well, and WordPress is loaded and ready to go there. I almost changed my mind about using WordPress, but I talked myself back into it. Talking to my blog and Twitter friends about their experiences and getting their advice really helped me commit to my original plan, and to explore my options within WordPress (and y’all, there are thousands). I’ll write more about that learning curve in a later post. But for now, here’s a sneak peek at my new theme. This is not final, but you can expect something very similar to this in my rebrand aesthetic!

What’s exciting in y’alls lives right now? Do you know anyone graduating this year? Are YOU graduating?
So let’s take a look back at that post and see what’s changed since August.
Still haven’t touched Dreamweaver since my old job at VT. Brackets is so much better.
I’ve done surprisingly well on the whole “one cup of coffee in the morning” thing. I only drink more than one cup a day or two a week. Such an improvement from undergrad! Tea has become a larger part of my diet. We’ll see how that changes come later this month and into April.
Prime Starbucks times: just before 8:30 am for early days, and between 9:15-10 on other days. This semester, my “early days” start at 9:30.
Speaking of software that will never be my friend… Adobe Edge Animate. At least it generates all the code for me. That’s nice. I feel pretty good about Photoshop and Illustrator, though!
Weeks until graduation: 12. Current level of panic: not…terrible. Yet.
Happy Monday, y’all! I missed my weekly Friday post last week, so I figured it’d be a good way to start my week. With fall in full swing and winter slowly encroaching, that means the holidays are getting closer and closer, and so is colder weather. And what does that mean? All of my seasonal favorites are coming back!
Here are 5 things that are making me smile this week!
CoffeeMate Seasonal Flavors – I look forward to these each year probably a little more than I should. I always make sure I have some “plain,” unflavored coffee at home to spice up with one of these. My fridge is always stocked with at least two of these, and I make sure to stock up after the holidays so I can enjoy them for as long as possible. Peppermint Mocha and Gingerbread are my favorite flavors. What’s yours?
Holiday crafts – My arts & crafts board on Pinterest has blown up with Christmas crafts in the last week or two (sorry, followers). Since I won’t be in Elon for very long in December (yay for being done with the semester by December 9), I have to start early to enjoy my own Christmas decorations. I’ve made my own snow globes, wine cork reindeer, and some cute hair bows. I also have tons of ideas for gifts for friends. Thanks, Pinterest. At least you’re keeping my creativity flowing.
