Even though 2020 feels like it’s never actually going to end, one silver lining we have to look forward to is the holiday season! The holidays are going to look very different for a lot of people this year, myself included, but I’m as excited as I always am to spend an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen trying new recipes and sharing them with friends and family. To start the 2020 holiday baking, let’s go with a classic: Fudgy Brownies.
I love good traditional brownies, but adding a nice dark beer to them just kicks those rich, chocolate flavors up a few notches.
Beer brownies might be my new favorite brownies.
I experimented with beer brownies a few times last year. The first batch I tried, I made with a barrel-aged pumpkin ale, which ended up being a really unique flavor combination. The other time I made them with a brown ale, which was nice, but not quite as strong a flavor as I would’ve liked.
Then I tried the Love Supreme milk stout from local brewery Heaven & Ale, and my life changed.
Brownie bites, you say? But I want more than just a bite of a brownie… that’s no fun!
Oh, on the contrary… these are delicious, and they won’t make you feel (completely) guilty for eating something sweet and decadent. Because that’s all we want in a brownie, right? To eat it and not hate ourselves? That’s my goal, at least.
A few times, I’ve bought some of the 100-calories-and-under snacks at the grocery store, like the Special K 80-calorie brownies, or the Fiber One 90-calorie bites. Then I realized they weren’t worth what I paid for them. Then I realized I could make my own, and they’d be twice as good.
So I did.
