Ah, Valentine’s Day. The holiday we all love to hate. For some, it’s just another day on the calendar. For others, it’s a day to show someone just how special they are to you—whether that person is a significant other, spouse, or just a dear friend. But there’s one other person you should never forget to take time for on Valentine’s Day—and that’s yourself!
You should never forget to treat yourself for Valentine’s Day.
I know, I know, #totalsinglegirlmove. But it’s true. Even if you’re in a serious, committed relationship— heck, even if you’re married—take time to show yourself some love this Valentine’s Day.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking time for yourself. In fact, making time for self-care in your daily or weekly routine is crucial to your mental, emotional, and physical health. If we keep going, going, going, without taking time to rest and recharge, then we’ll burn out and be miserable. So consider this your reminder to practice self-care regularly, whatever that means for you.
Hey Kate, ever thought about listening to your own advice?
What better time to practice some self-care than Valentine’s Day? Although the day is targeted at couples (and some hopelessly single people, I suppose), it’s the perfect opportunity to show yourself some love, too. You gotta love yourself, too, you know! How will you treat yourself for Valentine's Day this year? Click To Tweet
Practicing self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming, either. There are always easy ways to practice self-care and treat yourself that won’t break the bank or suck up a lot of time.
These are some of my favorite ways to treat yourself for Valentine’s Day this year.
Enjoy these solo, or with a group of your friends.
Take a workout class. To quote the dearest Elle Woods: “Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!” Lately I’ve been loving a mix of barre classes and some high-intensity interval classes. No matter how hard I work during a class, I always leave feeling refreshed and happy that I did something nice for myself. Yoga is always a good option, too.
Cook yourself a nice dinner. Or enjoy one out with some pals! Or invite your friends over for dinner! Whether you go for a steak and potatoes or opt for an easy sheet pan dinner, a nice dinner after a long day can be really relaxing.
Enjoy a sweet treat. Ice cream, donuts, chocolate… what’s Valentine’s Day without something sweet? Treat yourself to a nice dessert at one of your favorite spots in town, or bake yourself something tasty at home. Trust me, if it were warmer in Chattanooga, I’d be getting some ice cream.
Take a bath. Baths are so underrated. Some people say it’s weird to sit in your own “filth” for 20 minutes, but if you do it right with some epsom salts, bath bombs, essential oils, or your favorite bath accompaniments, a bath can be super relaxing.
Do a face mask. I’ve talked about my favorite face mask on here several times. Pick up a face mask at your local drug or beauty store and let yourself sit back for 20 minutes while it’s on.
Go to a fun event in your city or town. I’m going to a chocolate and cheese tasting event in Chattanooga, and I can’t wait. I saw tons of other fun-sounding events pop up on Facebook—cocktail tastings, concerts, special dinner events—there’s something for every taste or fancy.
Go on a hike. If it’s not too cold or rainy, get outside and hit the trails. There are tons of parks and trails within just 15 minutes of downtown Chattanooga. If you’re lucky enough to live reasonably close to good hiking spots, take advantage of them. Getting out and connecting with nature is good for the soul.
Watch a good movie or read a good book. If quieter activities are more your style, curl up with your favorite movie or a new book. The more “feel good” it is, the better! I’m a big fan of musicals and Disney movies when I need a mood boost, but I’ll never say no to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
And, last but not least…
Buy yourself flowers. A classic, but flowers never go out of style. Just keep them out of reach of any pets or small humans. These are some easy, fun ways to treat yourself for Valentine's Day! Click To Tweet
However you choose to do it, make time to treat yourself for Valentine’s Day this year. Self-care is important all year round, but Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity for it.
