My friend Caroline over at Adventures in Nonsense started a Friday Five series, where she highlights five awesome things from the month, on the last Friday of the month. I love a good, easy roundup post, so I thought I’d join the fun this time! July has been a crazy fun month, and picking just five things to share was a bit difficult. But here we go!
Here are my Friday Five highlights for the month of July!
Before I even begin, a couple weekends ago was National Ice Cream Day. So naturally I celebrated with a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough from Clumpies. What else was I supposed to do?
Anyway…
ONE | Restaurant Week
So I didn’t have time to do anything huge for Restaurant Week this year—it kind of snuck up on me and life was a bit crazy. My friend and fellow food blogger Shawanda (Eat Drink Frolic) joined me on my podcast for a Restaurant Week preview episode, which was awesome! The one night I got to go out that week, my friend Mary and I went to Flying Squirrel for dinner and I had their special grilled cheese sandwich, made with local cheese and served on local bread. Y’all, my life is forever changed. I still dream about that grilled cheese sandwich.
TWO | All thing avocados
I have no shame in admitting that I love avocados. Call me basic if you want; I own it. Avocados seem to taste better in the summer, so I use and eat them all the time. Guacamole is one of my favorite snacks; in fact, I make it almost every weekend. When I make it for my friends, I have to nearly triple my recipe because I eat so much of it myself. I just really love guacamole. And it’s super easy to whip up. Stay tuned for my recipe coming soon!
THREE | Tacos
I also really love tacos. They’re easy, versatile, full of flavor, and not to mention a great vehicle for my avocados. When my parents were in town visiting last month, I made a big batch of shredded chicken in my crock pot and we had tacos for dinner. And then I had tacos for dinner for the whole week after, and it was marvelous. Recently I made turkey taco meat and had turkey tacos for lunch and dinner. What’s your favorite kind of taco?
FOUR | My bullet journal
I wrote an entire post about my bullet journal routine last month, but I just had to talk about it again. It’s been a really great way to keep myself on top of my to-do lists and on time with all of my projects outside of my day job. It’s the blend of creative and organized that I had been looking for all along. I’ll show off my August spread over on my Instagram when it’s all done.
FIVE | Summer sangria
Sorry not sorry that four of my five highlights are food and drink related. Anyway, if I’m not drinking coffee, tea, a mint julep or craft beer, I’m probably drinking sangria. I love making sangria because I can make it whatever I want it to be. And they’re so easy – just throw your favorite wine, fruits and bubbles in a pitcher and let it sit overnight. I’ve made my summer fruit white sangria a few times now, and I think I’ve got the recipe just right. But I’m not sharing it quite yet…
As fun and wonderful as July has been so far, it’s not quite over yet! I’m heading up to Asheville this weekend to see my parents, aunt, uncle and cousin. I don’t get to see this side of my family very often, so it’ll be good to see them all and catch up—not to mention in a really fun city with a ton to see and do!
And then—it’ll be August! I’ve got a lot of exciting things coming up in August, too, that I can’t wait to share with y’all in the next Friday Five!
What are some things you loved last month? What are your highlights from July?
