Let’s go on a coffee date.
I’ve seen these posts a lot and they’re always so cute and honest. While I like to think of my posts as conversations with my readers, these always feel especially relaxed and conversational. One of my goals is to be more open and honest on the blog. So here’s my chance to give it a shot.
So, if we were on a coffee date…
I would order a nonfat/skinny caffe mocha, whichever option the coffee shop offers. But I’d only order that if it’s before 12:00. I’m really trying to not drink coffee or espresso-based drinks after lunchtime. It’s better for my anxiety. If it’s after 12:00, I’ll take a hot tea. Earl Grey is my jam.
I might also order a blueberry muffin. I love blueberry muffins. Well, I love most kinds of muffins, but blueberry is my favorite.
I would tell you that I would live on mac and cheese if I could. It’s my favorite food in the world. I’m pretty good at making it, too. What’s a Southern girl who doesn’t know how to make a good batch of mac and cheese?
I would tell you about how much I love my sweet kitty, Maggie. She’s a rescue kitty and the perfect furry company. I won’t have to say much for you to get the idea. You may think I sound like a crazy cat lady, but I promise I’m not. Then I’ll show you a picture…or three.
I would ask if you have any pets. Cats or dogs? How many? What breed(s)? How old are they? I love animals, if you can’t tell.
I would tell you that I’m pretty sure I’m growing my hair out. It used to be really long, when I was younger, but I started keeping it short when I played sports in high school. And in college, because it was easier. But now I want to be able to do cool things with my hair, like all those fancy Dutch braids I see on Pinterest.
I would ask if you’ve read any good books lately. I’m currently reading The Alchemist and am looking for recommendations for after that. I’ll tell you that I’m not a fan of any of the popular or “trendy” books, and subsequently confess that I really did not like The Fault in Our Stars. I won’t be surprised by the look on your face. I get it a lot.
I would ask you, if you could drop everything and travel anywhere in the world, tomorrow, where would you go? I’d tell you that my dream vacation would be go to back to England, use London as my “base” and travel around the countryside and to other cities. Then I’d hop over to Germany and Austria and explore Bavaria.

I would ask what gym you go to, or what your favorite way to exercise is. I’d tell you I recently started taking Pure Barre classes, and that I can’t wait for spring so I can go hiking again. And go paddle boarding on the river. I love paddle boarding.
I would then tell you that I really can’t wait for spring and summer. Especially summer. Then I’d ask you what your favorite season is, and why?
I might tell you that my anxiety came back in the last few months. I might tell you that I wasn’t eating as much, or that I’d lost motivation to do some things I usually loved. I wasn’t depressed, but I wasn’t myself, either. Then I would tell you that I’m in a better place now, that I feel happier and much more “myself.” We know what they say…if God brings you to it, He’ll bring you through it.
I would tell you that I definitely know that last part to be very true.
I would tell you that I sang karaoke for the first time since high school a few weeks ago. There’s a Mexican place across the street from my work, and my coworkers and I like to go on Fridays for karaoke night. I sang “Sell Out” by Reel Big Fish with one of my coworkers who can actually sing. It felt good.
I would ask what song is currently stuck in your head. I’d say that “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon has been stuck in my head since the summer, and I’m not tired of it. I’ll dance a little bit in my chair, because I can’t help it.
I would ask where you’re most active on social media, because I’d love to keep up with your adventures and random thoughts and musings you may have. I have lots of random thoughts and musings.
I would say that you’re a sweetheart and we should do this again very soon.
If you’re ever in Chattanooga, let’s grab some coffee! There are so many lovely local cafes in town that I love visiting when I need a break.
