Today marks Day 1 of the Blogtember Challenge, a month-long linkup hosted by Bailey {Brave Love Blog}. Part of the joy of blogging is discovering other fabulous blogs and making blog friends from all around. I’m super excited to jump in and explore all sorts of blogging adventures, and meet some other fantastic bloggers over the next 30 days. The themes and topics for each day are all awesome and unique; some of them will definitely challenge me to think differently, especially for topics I’ve never covered on the blog.
Will you be joining the Blogtember Challenge?
The first day is an introduction – a perfect way to get to know the girl behind the blog!
So, hellooooo y’all! If you’re a first-time visitor, then welcome to A Thought and a Half! You’ll learn a lot about me very quickly – I’m generally an open book!
I’ve moved a lot in my life–seven times, to be exact–so I don’t have what I would call a “true hometown.” I was born in North Carolina, grew up in metro Atlanta, went to high school in the Philadelphia suburbs (and moved back and forth between Atlanta and Philly three times), went to college in Virginia, and ended up back in North Carolina for grad school. In July, I moved to Tennessee to start life after school. Despite all the moves, and even though I don’t have a “real” hometown, I call the whole South my home.
As a self-proclaimed Southern sweetheart, a love for magnolias, barbecue (Carolina style, please), Coca-Cola, sweet tea, banana pudding, summer thunderstorms, football (although that developed a bit late) and big bows runs in my blood.

I absolutely bleed maroon and orange. Going to college at Virginia Tech was the best decision I’ve ever made; any other Hokies reading this understand the same feeling. I could go on and on and on about why I love VT and why it holds such a dear place in my heart, but instead, I’ll just show a bunch of pictures.
By day, I work at a social media agency. By night, I’m on my blog, cooking and/or baking, drinking tea, watching the Food Network or Big Bang Theory reruns, jumping in and out of various Twitter chats, and working on my first novel. Not all of those things always happen in one night, of course, but they’re common activities. I’m a writer by nature, so writing is always part of my daily life, to some degree.
Moving so often and not staying in one place for long periods of time contributed to my love for traveling. Whether I stay in the U.S. or explore a new country abroad, I love seeing new sights and experiencing lifestyles in other places. My junior year of college, I studied abroad in London, England. I hate to play favorites, but London has to be my favorite city I’ve seen. To this day, I think I left a piece of my heart there. My travel bucket list is always growing. Next on my list: Napa Valley for some wine-tasting fun, and the Bavarian region in Europe. I loved Berlin and would love to see more of Germany. And I really want to see more of Vienna, and Salzburg, where my favorite movie in the world was filmed.
Some of my favorite travel posts are: London // Euroventure in Pictures // Things I Learned from Traveling Abroad
There’s much more to me and my life adventures than what you’ve read in this post alone. I hope you’ll take a look around my blog and read some of my other posts, or reach out and say hi! Let’s make some new friends this month!
Tell me something interesting about YOU!
