Moving is hard. Packing is harder. Trying to make everything fit in its allotted space, while remembering that you have to carry all this stuff to your new apartment, is an almost Sisyphean labor. So many boxes, so many bags, so many things, yet seemingly so little space and so little time to do it all.
So while we’re all slaving away at stuffing our clothes and possessions into suitcases and boxes, a plethora of interesting musings crosses our minds. Here are just some of those things we probably think while packing. Can you relate?
A week to pack? I can do that, easily.
[starts going through closet and dresser drawers]
Maybe I should have started a little earlier.
Do I have enough boxes, bags and suitcases for this? Sure I do. I can make this work.
So, um, how much of this do I need to pack, and how much can I toss or donate?
When was the last time I wore this sweater? Or that dress? Or those shoes?
I can buy another one of these at Target when I get unpacked.
Okay, there’s one load that I can take to Goodwill.
Bed, Bath & Beyond has bath rugs and shower curtains, right?
Thank God Bed, Bath & Beyond accepts coupons after they expire. What a life-saver. I knew there was a reason I stock-pile coupons.
[counts coupons]
How much money will these 15 coupons save me? I hope a lot.
Man, Space Bags are God’s work. There’s no way I could fit all of this in my suitcases or boxes without them.
Ugh how is all of this going to fit in my car?
How heavy is this box? [picks it up] Oh my, heavy.
Oh my God, I forgot I had this… and that… I guess that means it can go.
Can I disassemble that shelf? Better yet, do I want to reassemble it when I get to my new place?
…nah. It’ll fit in one piece. I’ll make it fit. One less thing to take apart and put back together.
Can I stuff these sweaters and towels into the shelf’s space?
I should’ve started packing earlier… at least preliminary packing.
Will these socks fit down in my boots?
I still have a hundred phone calls to make. Can I talk and pack at the same time? Probably not.
Put everything in every space possible. Just do it. Leave no space unfilled.
Did I leave enough room in the car for…me?
I hope unpacking all of this is easier than packing it up.
What do you think: is packing or unpacking easier for you?
